After 3 months on the waiting list, she's finally here. My dream build Specialized Tarmac SL8 Expert.
I went with the Shimano Ultegra Di2 build because honestly, the shifting performance difference between Ultegra and Dura-Ace is negligible and the weight penalty is only ~200g.
Key specs:
Coming from a 2019 Allez Sprint, the jump in performance is absurd. Everything is better — climbing, descending, comfort, aero. The Roval CLX wheels are seriously fast and the hub engagement is immediate.
First century ride this Saturday — can't wait! 🚴♀️
Smart move going Ultegra Di2. I A/B tested both on the same frame at a fitting studio and genuinely couldn't tell the difference in shift quality. The weight savings of Dura-Ace only matter if you're racing Cat 1/2.
Enjoy the ride — first century on a new bike is always magic.
Beautiful build! The SL8 frame shape is so clean. How do you find the fit compared to the Allez Sprint? I've heard the SL8 runs slightly shorter in reach.
@Lisa — You're right, the reach is about 5mm shorter on the SL8 vs the Allez Sprint in the same size. My fitter added a 10mm longer stem to compensate and the position is now identical. The stack is also slightly higher which I actually prefer for longer rides.
@Tom — Exactly my thinking. Spent the Dura-Ace savings on a proper bike fit instead. Way better ROI.
Those Roval CLX are absolutely fantastic wheels. I've had mine for 8 months and they've been bombproof. Zero issues with the DT Swiss internals.
One tip: if you haven't already, set up tubeless. The Rovals seal really easily and the ride quality improvement over clinchers is significant.
