Planning my summer cycling trips and would love recommendations from the community. I've done most of the Belgian/Dutch classics but want to branch out.
Already done:
On my bucket list:
Anyone have firsthand experience with these? Best time of year, must-do climbs, where to stay?
Mallorca is the ultimate spring training camp destination. I go every March/April with a group from my club.
Why it's perfect:
Must-do rides:
Where to stay: Port de Pollença or Alcúdia in the north. Both have dozens of cycling hotels.
Best time: March-April or October. Summer is too hot and overrun with tourists.
Dolomites are my #1 recommendation. I live relatively close and ride there 3-4 times a year.
Must-do passes:
Best time: Late June to mid-September. July is ideal — all passes are open, weather is most stable.
Where to stay: Corvara or Badia in the Val Badia. Central location, great cycling infrastructure, and the food is incredible (South Tyrolean cuisine = Italian + Austrian fusion).
Budget: Expect to spend €100-150/night for a good hotel with bike storage and breakfast.
Girona! I spent a week there last October and it's become my favorite cycling destination.
The city itself is charming — medieval old town, incredible food (some of the best restaurants in Spain), and a huge cycling community. You'll see World Tour pros training on the same roads.
Favorite rides:
Pro tip: Get a coffee at La Fabrica (a cyclist café owned by former pro Christian Meier). Everyone from the local cycling scene passes through.
Where to stay: In the old town of Girona itself. You don't need a car — everything starts from the city.
